Our Project with EEP

Having sold 55,000 product units to date, in 2019 ACE is launching a new version of the ACE 1, which now has a built-in microprocessor allowing it to connect and communicate with smartphones. The new ACE 1 is bundled and sold with a smartphone having ACE’s built-for-purpose app (ACE app) pre-installed on them. This advancement pioneers Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) sales model in the clean cooking sector, and enables the transfer of real-time product usage data to ACE’s database. For the next 4 years, ACE is building a network of 25 energy shops in Lesotho to create more access to energy products in off-grid areas. This is a unique opportunity to pilot the project in that network, using customers’ PAYG credit rating to incentivise their choice of Sustainable Fuel Pellets (SFPs). EEP supports the pilot phase of the first 2500 ACE 1 bundles in order to verify the ability to distribute high tech PAYG cooking solutions in an LDC (Least Developed Country), and the possibility of galvanising the clean fuel sector in Lesotho by creating sustainable, long-term demand.

Job description

As a Project Manager (local) you will work closely with the Project Manager (global), and the Chief Operating Officer (COO) to plan, budget, oversee, and document all aspects of the specific project or projects you are working on. You may be expected to set up and manage a project team of ‘Project Officers’ and ‘Project Admins’ to help you implement all deliverables from the project you are responsible for and to coordinate and complete the project on time within budget and within scope. Your main tasks are to oversee all aspects of the project, to set deadlines, assign responsibilities, monitor and summarize progress of the project, prepare reports for upper management regarding status of the project, to represent the project in a public setting when required, and to report your progress to the funding agency. The successful candidate will work directly with funding agencies to ensure deliverables fall within the applicable scope and budget. He or she will coordinate with other departments to ensure all aspects of each project are compatible and will hire new talent as needed to fulfil client needs. This position reports to the Project Manager (global) and the COO and is†limited†to†1†year†with potential of a secondary follow-on appointment.


  • Set up and manage a project team of ‘Project Officers’ and ‘Project Admins’ to help you implement all deliverables from the respective projects
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders, and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Ensure resource availability and allocation
  • Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques
  • Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Report and escalate to management as needed
  • Manage the relationship with the donors
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors/donors
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Delegate project tasks based on junior staff members’ individual strengths, skill sets, and experience levels
  • Track project performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short and long-term goals
  • Meet budgetary objectives and make adjustments to project constraints based on financial analysis
  • Use and continually develop leadership skills
  • Attend conferences and training as required to maintain proficiency
  • Develop spreadsheets, diagrams, and process maps to document needs
  • Orient and train newly hired staff
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience
  • Proven working experience in project management preferred
  • Excellent donor-facing and internal communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Documents
  • Ability to work independently in an unstructured environment as well as with a team
  • Good time management skills are required
  • Self-motivated
  • Experience in team leadership preferred
  • Problem solving skills required
  • Experience working in donor-funded organizations preferred
  • Must treat sensitive information on a confidential basis
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) / PRINCE II certification is a plus
  • Ability to travel as needed
