Tender Overview

Background

African Clean Energy (ACE) is an international social enterprise focused on enabling more access to clean energy in off-grid communities of the developing world. ACE is best known for manufacturing and distributing the ACE One energy system, a cost-cutting product which gives users access to clean thermal energy for cooking as well as essential electricity for device charging and lighting. The ACE One burns any type of available biomass like wood, agri-waste, pellets, animal dung, etc leading to 50-85% reduction in fuel use. It also reduces smoke emissions to a negligible level and it is considered the cleanest multi-fuel cookstove in the world. The new model comes in a bundle with a smartphone, enabling rural consumers to become connected and creating an immense opportunity to provide them with digital tools that can improve their quality of life.

The ACE One is manufactured in ACE’s flagship factory in Maseru, Lesotho. The finished goods leaving the factory are distributed direct-to-consumer in rural areas of Lesotho, and also exported to ACE’s other B2C markets.

Context for Tender

For the distribution of our renewable energy products across Lesotho, ACE is developing a network of shops across all 10 districts in a project co-funded by the European Union. These shops are primarily based in rural settings where similar services are not available. The overall objective of the project is to provide consistent high-quality access to renewable household energy products in rural Lesotho, as well as associated after-sales services. The first specific objective is to build and run mobile storefront locations for the sale and maintenance of energy products. For the most part these shops should be standalone, modular units, and energy autonomic units, meaning that shops should be expandable depending on the popularity of the location and they should be self-sufficient when it comes to their electricity needs. The solar PV system is already being supplied by a local supplier with whom you may need to collaborate for the purposes of installation.
