Job Description

Response Manager

Are you passionate about creating positive change and improving access to clean energy? We are looking for a dynamic and dedicated Response Manager to join our team. The incumbent in the role will day to day operations of the response and maintenance teams.  

At African Clean Energy, we are a rapidly growing B Corp enterprise focused on enabling decentralized access to clean energy for households in Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. Our mission is to eliminate the worst forms of poverty through a platform of clean energy and smartphone technology. We provide clean energy solutions, including the ACE One, to households living on $2/day through an affordable microloan model.

The role we are currently recruiting for is Response Manager. As we are starting to build and expand our business in Kenya, we are looking for a highly organized and results-driven Response Manager  for day to day operations of the response and maintenance teams. The incumbent will maintain operations of our clean cookstove production and distribution systems. This role is pivotal in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our equipment and facilities, directly contributing to the quality and availability of our products  for the three office locations in Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale.  

At African Clean Energy, you will:

  • Maintenance Planning & Execution: Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for all production equipment and facilities to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operations.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of technicians and maintenance staff, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Troubleshooting & Repairs: Lead root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement effective solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the procurement and management of spare parts and maintenance tools, ensuring optimal stock levels and cost efficiency.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards. Maintain accurate maintenance records and generate regular performance reports for management.

We’d really like to hear from you if you have:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in maintenance management, preferably within manufacturing or clean energy sectors.
    • Strong knowledge of maintenance management systems (CMMS) and reliability-centered maintenance practices.
    • Proven leadership skills with experience in team management and development.
    • Excellent problem-solving abilities and technical troubleshooting skills.
    • Familiarity with clean cookstove technologies and renewable energy systems is an advantage.
    • Fluency in English and Kiswahili for effective customer communication.
